10 RIDICULOUS THINGS I WANT TO INVENT IN THE DRUM WORLD

Image
They say ideas rules the world, so today I'm gonna be sharing with you 10 of my most crazy and ridiculous ideas. Please note this ideas ain't for execution. I might experiment with some of ideas in the nearest future but for now, I'm just writing them to exercise the idea muscle. Whether the ideas are good or bad. It doesn't matter.  This is not a general idea. I am a drummer,  so all of my ideas are drum related. If you ain't a drummer or a musical instrumentalist you might not vibe with the ideas. But if you do, nice one. Lol.  Without wasting much of your time, here are the ideas:  1) A tuner app for drums: an app you can use to tune the drums. I just realized a tech drum needs to be invented first before inventing an app that tunes drums. Smh. An app like that won't work on a normal drum kit. Anyways. We move. 2) A 3D invisible drum kit: drummers play a lot to invisible things. Making an 3D invisible kit with a sound ain't a bad idea.  3) A drum beat hin...

HOW TO BE AN AVERAGE DRUMMER

Image
Ladies and gentlemen. Boys and girls. To be an average drummer ain't that hard. People say it is. A lot of drummers don't wanna be average, I don't know why. But if you do, Just follow this steps. 1) Don't practise: please don't. Practicing is overated. But when ever you do decide to pick up the sticks, don't stress yourself, 30 minutes of practise once or twice a week is enough for you.  You might not get better at drumming, who cares! This is what comes with being an average player. 2) Watch for fun: there are lots of drum lessons on Youtube. Bro, ignore them all. Don't do what the good and amazing drummers do. These guys watch both drum lessons and drum covers from professionals. They just don't watch, they also practice and creatively apply them when they play. But you are an average drummer,  you don't need the lessons. Just focus on the drum covers or solos by the professionals and keep wishing you can play the drums the way they do. Cheers. ...

Life Messing Up My Gigs

Image
Life is so unpredictable. One day you are so hyped about a Gig and all of a sudden, the Gig is no more. Life has its own way of doing things. You know that popular quotes that says “Man plans but God laughs” yeah that one. That’s how life works. So, I will be sharing with you some of the amazing experience I have had with this “Life”. I won’t say life messed things up for me but I can say it really broke my heart.   Maybe this amazing thing called LIFE was looking out for me or it felt that the Gig I was so excited about wasn’t the right Gig for me. I don’t know. Now when there is a potential Gig to be played in a few days. I don’t get too excited, I don’t begin to imagine things, I don’t really hope for anything. I just go on doing the things I have been doing. Coz I know anything can happen in a day, an hour or seconds. Anything can happen. And when something happens, Good or Bad. All I can say is: IT IS WHAT IT IS. Like I said earlier I would be sharing with you som...

MY LIFE AS A DRUMMER (I)

No Gigs. So i felt the need to share with you guys my ''exciting'' life  as a drummer. 1. I am starting to enjoy practicing with no drums in sight.  Just playing the air and pretending it's a real drum kit. It kinda helps tho. Practicing this way, especially if you've not played in a while, can make you feel like you are playing the real thing and when you finally get to play the real thing, you don't feel like a stranger on the drum kit. 2. I am a good drummer with no real offline connection with other musical instrumentalist. No strong online presence as a drummer. No Gigs or an idea on how to get one for myself. I am just working (a job i really don't like), practicing, creating new content and hoping i get a miraculous call from a stranger, an old band mate or someone somewhere who might have come across some videos of mine (not really a typical drum video), likes what he/she sees and hook me up with a real Gig. I guess things like this don...

The Instrumentalist I Don't Want To Work With These Year

Image
This is a New Year and I think it's not to late to write down my New Year resolution as a Drummer. My resolution circles around the musical instrumentalist I don't want to play with this year 2020. I learnt a lot last year and I hope not to face this instrumentalist again. Lol. So here are the list of instrumentalist I don't want to work with this year. 1) The Talking Drummer A.K.A Gangan players: The talking drum a.k.a gangan is one of the most popular traditional instrument in the country and is mostly played by the yorubas. Now there is nothing wrong with working with these guys especially if you want to add ginger to the songs. The only problem comes when you are not Yoruba and don't understand most of the melodic rhythms they use. I always find myself playing in churches with these guys and LORD!!! It is always stressful. It's fun when they play the easy ones but when they go deep, I am nowhere to be found. This alone can kill your rep/vibe as a drummer an...

The Rich, the Comfortable and the Broke Drummer

Image
There are drummers who take playing drums as a hobby and there are others who are passionate about this hobby and wants to make this hobby their profession. All they want to do is play and make good money as a drummer. Easier said than done. And like every other profession there is the struggling artiste and bubbling artiste. Not sure about other industry but in the drum industry there are three (3) kind of drummers: The Rich Drummer. The Comfortable Drummer. The Broke Drummer. (1) The Rich Drummer : The guy with the Gigs. He has more Gigs than he can play. Always on tour. Plays for the biggest artiste in the music industry. He knows the right people (very influential) and never lacks opportunities. He is in no need for a side hustle (the drums covers the bills). Signed to three or more different drum brands. Nice cars and house. Beautiful wife and children. He is the rich drummer we all want to be. Not just rich in cash but rich in every other aspect as a drummer. Eve...
