Maximize Learning From Your Videos

One of the things we love to do as drummers or musical instrumentalist in general is showing the world through our videos how talented we are. And doing so has created opportunities/Gigs for some of us.

But apart from just sharing our videos online, we can also learn from them.

Learning from my own drum video performance has been a valuable tool for improving my drumming skills and becoming a better musician.

Here are some tips for how you can make the most of this opportunity:

  • 1.      Watch the video with a critical eye: As you watch your performance, try to be objective and identify any mistakes or areas for improvement. This could include timing issues, incorrect stick technique, incorrect footwork, or unnecessary rolls.

  • 2.      Take notes: As you watch the video, make a list of the specific areas you want to work on. This will help you to focus your practice sessions and track your progress over time.

  • 3.      Slow down the video: If you’re having trouble identifying specific issues in your performance, try slowing down the video. This can make it easier to see what’s happening and allow you to more accurately identify problems.

  • 4.      Practice the difficult parts: Once you’ve identified the specific areas you want to improve, focus your practice on those parts of the music. This might involve playing along with the slowed-down video or practicing the difficult parts with a metronome.

  • 5.      Get feedback from your fellow drummers or musicians: If you’re struggling to identify specific issues in your performance, consider seeking feedback from a drum teacher or fellow drummers. They may be able to provide you with valuable insights and help you to improve more quickly.

By following these tips, you can use your drum video performance as a learning tool to help you become a better drummer. With time and dedication, you’ll be able to make steady progress and achieve your musical goals.
